CRUISING SAILS

Performance cruising
and club racing mainsail.

Reliability and endurance through long, hard service are essential in building great sails. They are achieved by using fabrics and hardware of the very best quality, as well as the right combination of traditional and modern sailmaking methods. We still believe in the "old &endash; fashioned" hand &endash; worked details that are absent in production sails from big lofts. Yet we’ve added a modern dimension in computer &endash; assisted design to tailor sails to individual needs and sailing conditions, along with computer plotting for accuracy.

Mariner Sails designs and builds two levels of sails for the discriminating sailor, Standard Cruising , and Offshore Quality cruising sails.

Standard Cruising Sails

These sails are a lower cost sail, very competitive in price in the market place.

The cloth is high quality cloth made by Challenge Sailcloth, with a medium &endash; firm hand and matched to the size and sailing quality of the boat, to maintain hard service while maintaining performance. We still use quality materials, hardware and workmanship for this class of cruising sails. The seams are triple stitched when using sailcloth 6 ounces or heavier, unless requested on lighter cloth, also reinforced batten pockets along with high quality tapered battens, and chafe protection.

Offshore Quality Cruising Sails

These are the highest quality sails, intended for the offshore cruiser or dedicated coastal passage maker where extensive hard use and adverse conditions prevail. The sails are designed to fill the cruisers needs, which must be known before the design begins. Specifications for this class of sails are:

  • Additional reinforcement in the corners
  • Leather "anti-chafe"protection where needed
  • Double &endash; reinforced reefs and reef eyelets
  • Double &endash; reinforced batten pockets
  • Highest quality hardware
  • All exposed ends of the boltrope are "rattailed"

Hand sewn eyelets which are much stronger than pressed rolled grommets and are provided on request, also hand sewn rings.

Hand roping of the edges of the sail is also available upon request.

This quality of sail may cost more but will provide a good trouble- free value for the demanding specifications of the discriminating sailor.
