RACING SAILS

Mariner Sails makes the most up to date racing sail designs and we use state of the art sailcloth by Dimension Polyant Sailcloth.

.

What is so special about our Racing Sails?

Our sails are designed and constructed with fast shapes that have superior performance in a wide range of wind and sea conditions. How is this done? This is done by using advanced techniques in computer aided design and computer plotting of the panels and a background in fluid dynamics.

Mariner Sails utilizes the newest technology in the construction of our racing sails; that is the use of gluing seams with Ultra-Bond. The advantages of this system of bonding seams are that it eliminates any stretch or creep that occurs in sewn seams. It was shown that a sailcloth strip with an Ultra-Bond seam exhibits exactly the same resistance to stretch as the same strip of fabric without a seam. This method thus produces a sail that is as smooth as a seamless sail, but with the advantages of the efficient high pressure laminated panels and extremely low probability of delamination as found in seamless or "molded" sails.

  • The result is a sail that is smoother and constructed lighter and with greater strength for a fast and efficient sail with good longevity.
  • The use of high quality composite laminate or woven fabrics. Cloth options such as:
    • Kevlar interwoven with Dacron
    • Kevlar and Technora X plies
    • Technora
    • One Design Deacon and Dacron Square Weaves
    • PBO; for the high end high performance Sails
  • For Race/Cruise sails there is also a line of laminates highly suited for the task.
  • Offshore Race; Spectra Laminates and other quality laminates

Batten combinations for mainsails

        IOR or IMS long battens

  • Top full batten and the lower three long battens.
  • 2 + 2, where the two upper battens are full battens and the two lower are long.
  • It is some what important that two lower battens remain long battens and not full. The first is that the lower part of the sail is easier to shape when not full length and the second is, that it removes a lot of extra weight from the sail and the third is that the sail is much easier to reef.

    Spinnakers

Mariner Sails makes a spinnaker employing sophisticated computer aided design methods and plotting that produces smooth and efficient spinnakers that are race and offshore proven. We utilize a true tri - radial design spinnakers that orient the panels to the load lines making it stronger allowing it to maintain its shape.

  • We make both machine seamed and adhesive seamed spinnakers.
  • Spinnaker styles:
  • Symmetric
  • Asymmetric
  • Inlaid designs
  • Custom inlaid designs & logos of your choosing
